Global Interest in Tibetan Health Advice on ‘The Right Way to Drink Tea’

Kathmandu — Health material published in the Tibetan language has provided important information on the correct way to drink tea and the precautions to observe. The material outlines various aspects requiring attention when consuming tea.

According to the material, it is advised not to remain in the water for too long when drinking tea. Generally, a duration of 10 to 20 minutes per session is considered appropriate. Since water temperatures vary, the time spent drinking tea is also not uniform. If the water contains carbonate elements, it is recommended not to stay in the water for long, to drink tea once a day or on two consecutive days, and to rest on the third day.

It is also advised not to drink tea when suffering from a cold. As there are different types of colds, it is noted that drinking tea does not necessarily benefit all types of colds. However, if symptoms such as a runny nose, loss of appetite, and bloating are present, drinking tea may offer some benefit.

Since drinking tea expends considerable bodily energy, consuming a nutritious diet and drinking alcohol in moderation can help restore the body’s energy. However, drinking tea after consuming large amounts of alcohol is prohibited. The heat of the tea can accelerate the heartbeat, raise blood pressure, place strain on the heart, and reduce blood circulation to the brain, making it risky to combine alcohol with tea.

Drinking tea immediately after meals is also discouraged. Some people are found to drink tea right after eating. Doing so can hinder digestion. Therefore, it is recommended to drink tea 30 minutes before a meal and only one hour after eating. Emphasis is also placed on controlling alcohol intake when drinking tea.
