“EU Is Not a Mediator, It Has Become a Party to the Conflict,” Says Russia

Moscow. Russia has made it clear that it does not view the European Union as a possible mediator in the Ukraine negotiations, stating that the EU has become a direct participant in the conflict.
Rodion Miroshnik, a special representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, told the Izvestia newspaper, “The European Union has today taken on the financial and military provision for the continuation of military actions and bloodshed in Ukraine. Therefore, we do not view the EU as a mediator.”
This statement from Russia, coming amid the EU’s continued announcements of weapons and financial support for Ukraine, signals a further dimming of prospects for any peace initiative.
