Opportunity for Master’s in Contemporary Chinese Studies: Applications Open for International Students at Renmin University

Kathmandu — The Silk Road School (now the School of Global Leadership) at China’s prestigious Renmin University has called for applications from international students for the 2026 Master of Contemporary Chinese Studies program.

Targeted at countries along the Belt and Road Initiative, the program focuses on the study of Chinese politics, economy, culture, and law, aiming to cultivate future global leaders. The university stated that the program, combining world-class educational resources, expert lectures, high-level forums, and cultural immersion, offers a fitting opportunity for those who wish to understand China and study its development path.

Eligibility and Required Documents

Applicants must not hold Chinese nationality, must possess a valid ordinary passport, be physically and mentally healthy, and have no criminal record. A bachelor’s degree or higher is mandatory. For English language proficiency, a minimum IELTS Academic overall score of 6.0 or a TOEFL iBT score of 90 is required. However, native English speakers, or those who have completed or are pursuing a degree where the medium of instruction is English, are exempted from this requirement.

Application documents include final education certificate, transcripts, a copy of a valid passport, two recommendation letters, a personal statement and study plan, a Foreigner Physical Examination Form, proof of economic capability, a Statement of Guarantee, and a Certificate of No Criminal Record.

Deadline and Fees

Online applications will remain open from November 25, 2025, to May 31, 2026. The application fee is set at 800 Chinese Yuan. The annual tuition fee for the program is 80,000 Chinese Yuan. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed online in English.
