China-France Talks: Two Permanent Security Council Members Recall Their Responsibility for World Peace

Beijing – China’s top diplomat Wang Yi has stated that China and France, as permanent members of the UN Security Council and major independent countries, shoulder important responsibilities for upholding international peace, stability and development.

Wang made the remarks during talks in Beijing with Emmanuel Bonne, diplomatic adviser to the French president. The two sides concluded the 26th edition of the China-France Strategic Dialogue, during which they commended the achievements of bilateral cooperation and outlined plans for the future.

Wang stressed that Beijing is willing to work with Paris for mutual benefit, upholding the “China-France spirit.” He emphasised that both nations should view the consensus reached between their leaders from a strategic and long-term perspective.

He called for deepening cooperation in traditional areas such as nuclear energy and aerospace, while also unlocking opportunities in new fields like artificial intelligence and green development.

Bonne stated that France values its traditional friendship with China and the mutual trust between the two heads of state, while reaffirming France’s continued commitment to the One-China policy.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis, the Iranian nuclear issue, and the situation in the Middle East. With the United Nations marking its 80th anniversary next year, both sides reiterated their commitment to multilateralism. Wang pointed to the need for unwavering support for the UN-centred international system. Bonne expressed France’s rejection of bloc confrontation and reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to its tradition of independent diplomacy.
