“No Matter How Many Times You Save It, Europe Self-Organises Into a Concentration Camp”: Zakharova’s Swipe After Merz Objects to Fico’s Visit

Moscow – Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has made a sharp remark aimed at German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, stating that without the victory of the Soviet people, Europe would have had no existence at all.
After Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico decided to attend Victory Day celebrations in Moscow instead of marking Europe Day, Merz had said that there would be a “serious conversation” with him. Reacting to that comment, Zakharova said, “Without the victory of the Soviet people, there would have been no Europe Day. There would only have been a vast concentration camp, complete with gas chambers.” She added a jibe that European nations, “no matter how many times you save them, self-organise into a concentration camp from any position.”
Fico was the only European Union prime minister to attend this year’s Victory Day parade in Moscow. Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed him warmly at the Kremlin and praised Fico’s stance in preserving the historical truth of the Second World War.
