Lavrov and Jaishankar to Hold Talks in New Delhi Today: New Dimensions of Russia-India Relations on the Agenda

New Delhi – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will hold formal talks with Indian External Affairs Minister Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in New Delhi today. Self-sufficient and resilient to fluctuations in the geopolitical environment, Russia-India relations are based on long-standing friendship and mutual consideration of national interests.

The two countries hold shared or closely aligned positions on key issues of the present time. They are united not only by an understanding of the need to build a polycentric and democratic world order based on strict compliance with international law, but also by their readiness to jointly counter the challenges and threats of the 21st century.

The two Foreign Ministers will focus on the implementation of the agreements reached during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s official visit to India in December 2025, preparations for the upcoming talks between the two leaders in Russia, and the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Indian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation.

The two sides will exchange views on a wide range of priority areas of bilateral cooperation, including expanding trade, stepping up efforts to build sustainable transport, logistics and financial channels protected from unlawful external pressure, deepening energy cooperation, and broadening contacts in science and space technologies.

The Foreign Ministers will also exchange views on current international and regional issues. Special attention is expected to be paid to the situation in the Middle East. The Ministers are also expected to compare notes on cooperation within the UN, BRICS and the G20.

The independent and responsible foreign policies of Russia and India are an important factor in ensuring global security and stability. Moscow and New Delhi set an example of how to successfully defend political and economic sovereignty and resist neo-imperialist diktat. This experience is important for all members of the international community that advocate the further development and strengthening of a fair system of international relations.
