Appointment Letter Shows Madan Regmi Served as Advisor to CCTV Cultural Project

Kathmandu. Senior personality Madan Regmi has shared on Facebook a letter of appointment showing that he was appointed as an advisor to a cultural research project linked to China Central Television, CCTV.
According to the appointment letter made public by Regmi, he was appointed as an advisor to “The Pilgrimage Journey of Xuanzang,” a major cultural research activity associated with CCTV.
The document states that his appointment was valid from April 16, 2006, to April 15, 2008. The letter appears to have been issued on April 10, 2006, by the Organizing Committee of “The Pilgrimage Journey of Xuanzang,” China Central Television.
The project is understood to be related to the historical journey of Xuanzang, the renowned Chinese Buddhist monk, scholar and traveler. Xuanzang, often referred to in the Nepali context as Hiuen Tsang, traveled from China through Central Asia to the Indian subcontinent in the seventh century. His journey holds great significance in the history of China, South Asia, Buddhist civilization, the Silk Road and cultural exchanges.
The appointment letter contains details in both English and Chinese. In the document, Regmi is mentioned as an “Advisor.” Such a role generally indicates providing guidance on historical, cultural and local contexts related to the project.
The document shared by Regmi highlights an interesting aspect of the cultural, historical and intellectual relationship between Nepal and China. Since Xuanzang’s journey is closely linked with South Asian Buddhist heritage, the involvement of a Nepali figure in such a project can be regarded as meaningful.
However, as the document has been made public through social media, further confirmation regarding its detailed official record, Regmi’s actual role in the project and related institutional documentation may be obtained from the concerned individual, his family, the organizing committee or CCTV archives.
