Foreign Minister Khanal Clarifies No British Mediation Sought in Border Dispute

Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has stated that Nepal has not sought British mediation in the Nepal-India border dispute. His clarification came from New Delhi against the backdrop of Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s remark that discussions were also ongoing with the “Government of England” to resolve the border issue.
Khanal clarified that Nepal has not sought mediation from Britain but rather spoke about access to documents. He said, “We need historical evidence. We only wanted to see if we could have access to some documents that might be in UK libraries or museums. This does not mean that we have requested mediation.”
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs had earlier stated that most Nepal-India border issues have already been resolved and rejected third-party mediation. Minister Khanal’s statement has clarified Nepal’s official position on the border dispute, indicating that there is no plan for external mediation.
