Korala Border Point Collects Over Rs 6.66 Billion in Revenue

Mustang — More than Rs 6.66 billion in customs revenue has been collected through the Nepal-China northern Korala border point in Upper Mustang.

According to the Mustang Customs Office at Nechung, Lomanthang-1, the revenue was collected from imports and exports through the Korala border point from Bhadra 31, when it came into full operation, until Jestha 16.

Mustang Customs Chief Bidur Chundal said electric vehicles, festival-targeted clothing, cosmetics, electronic goods and other items have been imported into Nepal from China through the Korala border point. The office said significant customs revenue has been collected from the import of these goods.

From Nepal, handicraft items and other Nepali products have been exported to China through the Korala border point. The customs office said Rs 20.55 million in revenue was collected from exports.

According to the office, 2,997 electric vehicles have entered Nepal through the Korala border point from last Bhadra to Jestha 16. Customs revenue of Rs 6.76 billion has been collected from the import of electric vehicles alone.

Meanwhile, the import process of electric vehicles brought into Nepal through the Korala border point in the second week of Jestha has recently come under controversy. Although customs clearance of 649 electric vehicles entering Nepal through Korala had reportedly been completed, the government has launched an investigation into the process.

The government has formed a three-member investigation committee to determine whether there were any irregularities in the import process of electric vehicles brought through the Korala border point.

The committee has already monitored electric vehicles seized by the Armed Police Force in Hemja of Kaski, Kushma of Parbat, Jomsom of Mustang and at the Korala border point.

Since coming into full operation, the Korala border point has gained importance as a northern trade route. With the rise in imports from China, including electric vehicles, revenue collection at the Mustang Customs Office has also increased significantly.
