Home Minister Sudhan Gurung to Reopen Royal Palace Massacre Files

Kathmandu — Newly appointed Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has announced plans to reopen the files related to the 2058 BS (2001 AD) Royal Palace massacre.
Assuming office at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday evening, Gurung informed journalists that the case files would be reviewed and necessary procedures reinitiated. Returning to the ministry after 47 days, he pledged to make ongoing investigations more effective and transparent.
Minister Gurung also decided to study the possibility of withdrawing criminal charges filed against individuals during the Gen-Z Movement, with conclusions to be drawn after thorough legal and administrative review.
He further stated that the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) would be strengthened, ongoing investigation processes concluded, and all necessary case files reopened as needed.
Gurung had previously resigned from the Home Ministry on 9th Baisakh after serving 26 days. He stepped down from his position after 26 days as Home Minister and returned to take charge of the Ministry of Home Affairs after 47 days.
