Aba County Steps Up Road Safety Measures During Rainy Season

Aba County in southwest China’s Sichuan Province has intensified road maintenance and risk-prevention work to ensure safe and smooth traffic during the rainy season.

As heavy rain, strong winds, falling rocks, blocked drainage and road obstructions become more likely during this period, the Road Maintenance Center under the Aba County Transport Bureau has recently carried out extensive inspections, hazard checks, maintenance and cleanup operations across roads under its jurisdiction.

Following the work approach of “risk prevention, hazard removal and smooth traffic,” the center has inspected possible danger spots along road sections and adopted a full-process management system covering inspection, registration, correction and follow-up review.

Minor hazards discovered during inspections have been dealt with immediately. For larger risks, warning signs have been installed, records have been created, and repairs have been scheduled within a set timeframe, with follow-up checks arranged to reduce the possibility of road traffic incidents at the source.

Considering the impact of rainy-season weather on mountain roads, the authorities have combined manual cleaning with the use of machinery to remove obstacles from road surfaces. Fallen stones, tree branches and other debris have been cleared, while roadside ditches, drainage channels and bridge water outlets have also been cleaned to prevent flooding and blockage.

A staff member from the Aba County Transport Bureau said the bureau has adjusted its road maintenance plans according to changing weather conditions. Patrols and inspections have also been strengthened so that newly emerging risks can be identified and addressed in time.

The county said it will continue working to keep roads clean, safe and open, providing stronger protection for travelers and vehicles during the rainy season.
