Foreign Minister Khanal Meets CPC International Department Minister Liu in Beijing

Beijing — Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal, who is currently visiting China, has met with H.E. Mr. Liu Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, in Beijing.

Foreign Minister Khanal shared the information through a Facebook post, saying it was a pleasure to meet Minister Liu in Beijing. According to Khanal, the meeting focused on further strengthening Nepal–China relations, expanding party-to-party exchanges, and deepening people-to-people ties between the two countries.

The International Department of the CPC Central Committee is an important body of the ruling Communist Party of China responsible for managing the party’s external political relations. Liu Haixing currently serves as the minister of the department.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed Nepal–China relations, political exchanges between parties, mutual trust, people-to-people connectivity, and ways to further advance cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.

The meeting is being viewed as part of broader diplomatic and political engagement between Nepal and China. While Nepal–China relations are traditionally conducted through formal state-level diplomatic channels, party-to-party exchanges have also become an important component of bilateral engagement in recent years.

Foreign Minister Khanal’s meeting with Liu highlights China’s continued interest in strengthening relations not only with the Government of Nepal but also with Nepal’s emerging political forces. At the same time, it reflects Nepal’s effort to maintain active dialogue with China through both official and political channels.

Nepal and China have maintained long-standing friendly relations based on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, non-interference, and respect for each other’s sovereignty. In recent years, cooperation between the two countries has expanded in areas including infrastructure, trade, tourism, investment, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

Khanal’s visit to China has drawn attention in Kathmandu as Nepal continues to pursue a balanced foreign policy with its two major neighbours, China and India. His engagements in Beijing are expected to contribute to further clarity on Nepal–China cooperation, political trust, and future areas of partnership.

Foreign Minister Khanal is expected to hold additional meetings with Chinese officials during his China visit.
