Golog Launches Cultural and Natural Heritage Day Activities in Qinghai

Qinghai. Golog Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai Province, China, has launched a series of activities to mark Cultural and Natural Heritage Day and the Intangible Cultural Heritage Promotion Month.
The events began in Jigzhi County of Golog Prefecture. Through these activities, the prefecture showcased the achievements made in building the national-level Gesar Cultural and Ecological Protection Zone. Organizers said the program aims to give new vitality to the intangible cultural heritage of the Tibetan Plateau in the new era.
The opening ceremony featured a Gesar cultural performance with strong local characteristics. Artists presented the continuity and preservation of Gesar culture through ancient historical narratives, folk traditions, storytelling, singing and visual performances.
Local residents and tourists attending the event observed performances of the Gesar epic, Tibetan folk dances, traditional songs and music, and other forms of local culture. Participants said the program allowed them to experience the cultural spirit of the plateau from close range.
During the event, officials from relevant departments presented certificates to the intangible cultural heritage inheritance base of Jigzhi County and to newly recognized prefecture-level inheritors. The move is expected to encourage heritage inheritors to remain active in preserving and passing down intangible cultural traditions.
On stage, ancient folk dances, Gesar epic recitations and Tibetan traditional instrumental performances were presented one after another. The performers introduced local folk culture in a simple and engaging way, recalling history and tradition.
An intangible cultural heritage exhibition and market were also held near the stage. Traditional handicrafts, cultural products and items based on local skills were displayed. Heritage inheritors demonstrated their craftsmanship, while local people and tourists experienced the unique charm of traditional skills.
Golog is regarded as one of China’s major regions with rich Gesar cultural resources and a relatively complete system for preservation and inheritance. In recent years, the prefecture has focused on exploring local cultural resources, systematically protecting intangible cultural heritage, strengthening scientific management and promoting innovative development.
By December 2025, Golog Prefecture had collected and documented 651 representative intangible cultural heritage projects in 10 major categories within the protection zone. A total of 805 heritage inheritors at different levels had also been registered, further strengthening the region’s system for preserving and passing down intangible cultural heritage.
