Macao Dragon Boat Races Conclude with Nanhai Jiujiang’s Double Triumph

MACAO (Agencies) — The 2026 Macao International Dragon Boat Races came to a close on Friday, coinciding with the Dragon Boat Festival. China’s Nanhai Jiujiang team emerged victorious in both the open and women’s categories of the 500m International Invitation Standard Dragon Boat Race.
The Nam Van Lake Nautical Center witnessed full-capacity crowds throughout the event, with queues forming at seating sections and large gatherings outside the venue, adding to the festive spirit.
Thailand’s national team secured runner-up positions in both disciplines. The Hengqin Jiangke Dragon Boat Club clinched third place in the open category, while Singapore’s national team took bronze in the women’s event.
Earlier in the day, Tianjin University of Sport won the University Student Invitation Standard Dragon Boat Race (500m), followed by Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) in second place and the University of Macau in third.
Chng Jing Hang, captain of the Nanyang Technological University Singapore team, said his squad arrived in Macao with title aspirations after rigorous training. Despite falling short this year, he acknowledged the strength of their rivals and vowed to keep pushing for better results in the future.
He described dragon boat racing as a widely recognized sport in Singapore and noted that competing in Macao provides valuable opportunities to exchange experiences with teams from various countries and regions. For him, the sport has redefined the festival — transforming it into a celebration of teamwork and the fruits of dedicated training.
Alongside the races, the International Dragon Boat Races Carnival was held near the competition area, featuring photo zones, stalls selling dragon boat-themed crafts and cultural merchandise, local snacks, interactive games, and performances — all contributing to a vibrant holiday atmosphere.
