Russia and Madagascar Deepen Ties as Lavrov Hosts Foreign Minister Ndiaye in Moscow

MOSCOW, – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held high-level talks in Moscow on Thursday with his Malagasy counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Madagascar Alice Ndiaye, who is currently on a working visit to Russia.

During the comprehensive discussions, the two sides reviewed the current state and future prospects of the traditionally friendly bilateral relations between Moscow and Antananarivo. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to deepening political dialogue and expanding cooperation across trade and economic, educational, cultural, and other key sectors.

The importance of intensifying joint efforts to strengthen the legal framework underpinning the bilateral relationship was also emphasized.

In their exchange on pressing global and regional issues, the two ministers highlighted a significant convergence of positions between Russia and Madagascar, particularly in advocating for the establishment of a polycentric world order and upholding the principles of justice and equality in international affairs.

Both ministers expressed mutual interest in bolstering coordination within the framework of the United Nations and other multilateral platforms.

Special emphasis was placed on the preparations for the third Russia-Africa Summit, scheduled to take place in the autumn of this year, as well as on deepening engagement with regional integration organizations across the African continent.

Following the official talks, Lavrov and Ndiaye jointly addressed the media in a press conference, providing insights into the discussions and outlining the roadmap for future cooperation between the two nations.
