Global Publishing Leaders Gather in Beijing to Chart AI Era Roadmap

BEIJING, – Publishing professionals from around the world convened in Beijing on Friday for the 2026 International Publishing Forum, a high-level gathering dedicated to exploring how artificial intelligence is reshaping the future of the global publishing industry.

Held under the theme “Redefining Publishing in the AI Era,” the forum attracted nearly 300 publishing executives and industry professionals representing 26 countries and regions. The discussions centered on the significant opportunities and complex challenges facing the sector in an increasingly digital and algorithm-driven landscape.

A prevailing consensus emerged among participants that artificial intelligence should be viewed as a tool to enhance, rather than replace, human creativity. The technology’s greatest potential, they agreed, lies in fostering a new publishing ecosystem built on human-machine collaboration, enabling creators and publishers to improve operational efficiency while expanding the reach of quality content to broader audiences.

However, attendees were equally emphatic about the need to uphold core industry principles. They stressed the paramount importance of intellectual property protection, content authenticity and credibility, and linguistic diversity, while preserving the central role of human originality in the content creation process.

The forum also served as a platform for urging the global publishing community to work collectively toward establishing industry standards and copyright frameworks specifically tailored for AI applications. Such rules, participants argued, should ensure fair compensation for creators, guarantee source traceability, and clearly define rights and responsibilities for all stakeholders involved.

These efforts are essential to protecting the interests of creators and publishers, and to ensuring that high-quality original content continues to thrive and reach wider audiences in the AI era, according to the participants.

The forum, held on the sidelines of the Beijing International Book Fair, was jointly organized by the Publishers Association of China and the International Publishers Association, underscoring the international significance of the discussions.
