Tourist Surge in Zungchu County During May Day Holiday, Revenue Sees Sharp Rise

Zungchu — Zungchu County in western China’s Sichuan Province witnessed a remarkable influx of tourists during the May Day holiday, drawn by its breathtaking natural scenery and distinctive cultural heritage.

According to the county tourism bureau, Zungchu recorded a total of 100,268 tourist visits over the holiday period, marking a 15.87 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Tourism revenue reached 82.615 million yuan (approximately 8,261.5 lakh), reflecting a 19.66 percent year-on-year rise.

The Gsermcho (Geser Lake) scenic area proved the most popular destination, welcoming 31,015 visitors who wandered along its colourful, butterfly-like terraced paths while soaking in the untouched natural splendour.

The ancient town of Zungchu attracted 28,236 tourists, who meandered through its imposing old walls and bustling market lanes, immersing themselves in the county’s folk traditions and distinctive border-town character.

The Gcochang Rgumchig scenic area received 30,439 visitors, drawn by the sight of blooming flowers across expansive meadows and the towering Red Army Long March memorial monument, which stands as a solemn reminder of history. Tourists flocked to the site one after another for leisurely walks and relaxation.

An additional 10,578 tourists visited other scenic spots across the county, leaving the entire area brimming with holidaymakers. Entry fee revenue across the county totalled 3.1355 million yuan, soaring by an impressive 85.21 percent compared to the previous year.

This year’s May Day holiday saw Zungchu County offer visitors a rich cultural feast, built on the foundations of pristine natural beauty, unique folk customs, and a deep sense of heritage. Tourists departed with a kaleidoscope of vivid memories and promises to return to this enchanting corner of Sichuan.
