Message of Russia Day: A Strong Foundation for Partnership in the New World Order

Editorial

The reception hosted on the occasion of Russia’s National Day at the Princess Ballroom of Dusit Princess Kathmandu this Wednesday was far more than a routine diplomatic gathering. Hosted by H.E. Mr. Aleksei V. Surovtsev, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Nepal, and Mrs. Zhanna V. Surovtseva, the event brought together the pinnacle of Nepal’s political, security, administrative, and media spheres under a single roof.

Initially planned for 250 guests, the event saw an additional 80 invitees, and the presence of dignitaries ranging from the Vice President, the Chief of Army Staff, the Inspector General of the Armed Police Force, Secretaries of various ministries, the former Chairman of the National Assembly, to leading journalists and scholars, conveyed a resounding message: Russia’s influence on the global geopolitical map is making a powerful resurgence, stronger than before.

At a time when the international community is engaged in a discourse on multipolar power equilibrium, Russia has elevated its diplomacy, energy security, technology transfer, and military partnerships to new heights. For countries like Nepal, a robust relationship with Russia has facilitated the continued pursuit of its non-alignment and independent foreign policy on the global stage.

This event reaffirmed that Nepal views Russia not merely as a global power, but as a reliable partner for its development and security. Russia’s expanded role is welcome, as it contributes to dismantling unipolar hegemony and steering the world toward a more just and stable trajectory.

Russia’s National Day demonstrated a commitment to elevating bilateral partnership to unprecedented levels. The growing presence of this great power—which steadfastly stands for Nepal’s national interests, sovereignty, and international stability—is a matter of pride for us. We extend a heartfelt welcome to Russia as a trustworthy and dependable friend and partner of Nepal, and we earnestly wish that this friendship continues to deepen and flourish in the days to come.
