Russia and Ukraine Exchange Prisoners, 160 Russian Servicemen Returned

Moscow — Russia and Ukraine have carried out another prisoner exchange. According to Russia’s Defence Ministry, 160 Russian servicemen returned on June 26 from territory controlled by the Ukrainian side. In exchange, 160 Ukrainian prisoners of war were handed over.

The Russian Defence Ministry said the returned Russian servicemen are currently in Belarus, where they are receiving necessary assistance under the coordination of Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova.

According to the ministry, the servicemen will be transported to Russia after receiving psychological and medical assistance. They will undergo further treatment and rehabilitation at medical institutions under the Russian Defence Ministry.

The Russian side said the United Arab Emirates provided humanitarian mediation assistance in facilitating the return of the servicemen.

Prisoner exchanges between Russia and Ukraine have taken place in several phases during the conflict. The latest exchange is being viewed as another important humanitarian process.
