Lavrov Pays Tribute to Sergey Ivanov, Calling His Death a Great Loss for Russia

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has expressed deep condolences over the death of Sergey Ivanov, describing him as an outstanding statesman, a true patriot and a longtime ally of President Vladimir Putin.

In a condolence message issued on June 26, Lavrov said he had learned of Ivanov’s passing with deep sadness. He said Ivanov had made an invaluable personal contribution to the development of modern Russia and had played an important role in strengthening the country’s national security and defence capabilities.

Lavrov also highlighted Ivanov’s role in reinforcing Russia’s position on the global stage and in modernising the country’s military-industrial complex. He said Ivanov’s public service had earned him profound respect in society, strong authority among his colleagues and the highest national honours.

According to Lavrov, Ivanov’s contribution was not limited to defence and security affairs. He also noted Ivanov’s efforts in advancing Russia’s environmental protection strategy and in helping unlock the potential of the country’s transport industry.

The foreign minister also recalled his personal relationship with Ivanov, saying the two had shared a long-standing friendship. Lavrov described him as a person of outstanding professionalism, unwavering integrity and genuine kindness toward others.

“Russia has suffered a great loss,” Lavrov said in his message, extending heartfelt condolences, sympathy and support to Ivanov’s family and friends.

President Vladimir Putin also expressed condolences to Ivanov’s family and friends, according to the Kremlin.

Ivanov was widely known as one of the prominent figures in Russia’s modern state structure. He held senior positions connected with national security, defence, state administration, environmental policy and transport development.

Lavrov’s message reflected the Russian leadership’s assessment of Ivanov as a senior public figure whose career was closely linked with the formation and consolidation of modern Russia’s state institutions.

The condolence statement concluded with Lavrov offering his deepest sympathy and support to Ivanov’s relatives, friends and all those mourning his death.
