Russia and Seychelles Exchange Greetings on 50th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations

Moscow. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Seychelles’ Minister for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Barry Faure have exchanged congratulatory messages on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The messages were exchanged on June 30. The two ministers noted that Russia–Seychelles relations have traditionally been friendly and are based on the principles of mutual respect, equality and a balance of each other’s interests.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening political dialogue and expanding partnership in trade, economy, investment, science, education, culture, humanitarian cooperation and other areas.

Diplomatic relations between Russia and Seychelles were established on June 30, 1976. Since then, the two countries have maintained cooperation based on political dialogue, development partnership, education, culture and mutual support on international platforms.

Seychelles, an island nation in the Indian Ocean, holds strategic importance due to its location linking Africa, Asia and maritime security routes. In this context, Russia–Seychelles relations are also viewed as part of Moscow’s broader diplomatic engagement with Africa and the Indian Ocean region.

The two foreign ministers expressed their readiness to make bilateral partnership more practical, result-oriented and mutually beneficial in the years ahead.
