Russia and Vanuatu Mark 40th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations

Moscow. Russia and Vanuatu have marked the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, with Russia extending congratulations and best wishes to the people of Vanuatu.

June 30 is observed as the day when formal diplomatic relations between Russia and Vanuatu were established. Over the past four decades, relations between the two countries have developed on the basis of mutual respect, constructive dialogue and friendly cooperation.

Russia has stated that it highly values its partnership with Vanuatu and remains committed to further strengthening bilateral cooperation. Moscow has also expressed its readiness to expand coordination, dialogue and partnership with Vanuatu within international organisations.

Vanuatu is a small but geopolitically significant island nation in the Pacific Ocean. Its independent foreign policy, regional identity and voice on behalf of small island states in international forums have increased its diplomatic importance.

Diplomatic relations between Russia and Vanuatu were established on June 30, 1986. The formal relationship, initially established between the then Soviet Union and Vanuatu, was continued by the Russian Federation after the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary, Russia conveyed sincere congratulations to its Vanuatuan friends and reaffirmed its desire to make bilateral relations more practical, friendly and based on mutual interests in the years ahead.
