Ocean Park Hong Kong to Celebrate Birthdays of Six Giant Pandas Through End of August

Hong Kong. Ocean Park Hong Kong has announced that it will hold special birthday celebrations through the end of August for the six giant pandas currently living at the park.

According to the park, the Hong Kong-born twin pandas Jia Jia and De De will turn two in August. Their parents, Le Le and Ying Ying, will also turn 21 in the same month. An An and Ke Ke, whose birth months are both in June, will also be included in the months-long celebration.

Ocean Park said the birthday events will not only serve as entertainment for visitors, but also as an opportunity to raise public awareness about animal welfare, wildlife conservation and respect for nature. The park plans to organise interactive games, special performances and family-friendly activities during the celebration period.

Jia Jia and De De have already attracted wide attention from local and international visitors. They are the offspring of Ying Ying and Le Le. Ying Ying gave birth to the twins in August 2024, making them the first giant pandas born in Hong Kong.

Ocean Park currently houses six giant pandas. An An and Ke Ke arrived in Hong Kong from Beijing in 2024, bringing the total number of pandas at the park to six. Their presence has also been linked to efforts to promote Hong Kong’s tourism sector.

The park has been seeking to connect the popularity of its panda family with tourism promotion, conservation education and family entertainment. In recent years, giant pandas have become an important symbol of tourism, cultural identity and public engagement in Hong Kong.

During the birthday celebration period, Ocean Park will provide visitors with information about the pandas’ lifestyle, diet, conservation needs and animal welfare. The organisers expect the events to help increase tourist visits and broaden public interest in wildlife protection.
