Lavrov and Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Discuss Persian Gulf Developments by Phone

Moscow. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al Zayani held a telephone conversation on June 30.

According to the Russian side, the conversation was held at the initiative of Bahrain and focused mainly on recent developments in the Persian Gulf region.

During the discussion, the two foreign ministers stressed the need for all parties involved in the armed confrontation to strictly comply with the June 17 memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran on ending the military conflict.

Russia and Bahrain also agreed to maintain close coordination on Middle East issues at the United Nations Security Council. At a time when recent developments have increased pressure on Persian Gulf security, maritime stability, energy supply and regional diplomacy, the dialogue between Moscow and Manama is seen as significant.

Both sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening Russia–Bahrain cooperation in trade, the economy, culture and humanitarian affairs.

Russia has recently emphasized dialogue, restraint and multilateral diplomatic coordination as key tools for reducing tensions in the Middle East. Bahrain, being directly linked to the security architecture of the Persian Gulf, maritime routes and regional stability, also remains an important regional actor.

The conversation highlighted the need to contain military tensions, ensure the implementation of the U.S.–Iran understanding, and keep diplomatic dialogue active within the UN Security Council on complex Middle Eastern issues.
