Lavrov Extends Independence Day Greetings to Belarusian Foreign Minister

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has sent greetings to Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov on the occasion of the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus, emphasising stronger foreign policy coordination, mutual support and joint security between the two countries.

In his message dated July 3, Lavrov expressed gratitude for Ryzhenkov’s greetings on Russia Day and, in return, conveyed his heartfelt wishes on Belarus’ national holiday.

Lavrov said the occasion carries particular significance for Belarusians, Russians and other fraternal peoples of the former Soviet Union, especially in the year marking the 85th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War.

He noted that on July 3, 1944, the multinational Red Army liberated Minsk from Nazi occupation, an event that remains central to the historical meaning of Belarusian Independence Day.

Lavrov said the memory of the extraordinary courage of the Soviet people, who defended the freedom and independence of their shared homeland at the cost of immense sacrifices and helped free the world from Nazism, would always be preserved.

Referring to the tense global military and political environment and what he described as the resurgence of neo-Nazism, Lavrov said Russia and Belarus must remain united and firmly resist any attempt to threaten the sovereignty and security of the Union State.

He also stressed the importance of working with like-minded partners to build a new and more equitable security architecture based on the principles of equality and indivisible security across the Eurasian continent.

Lavrov reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to close foreign policy coordination with Belarus and to mutual support in advancing the two countries’ common interests on the international stage.

Concluding the message, he wished Ryzhenkov and the entire staff of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry good health, happiness, peace, prosperity and success.
