President Xi Presents China’s Top Science and Technology Award

Chinese President Xi Jinping presented the country’s highest science and technology award and delivered an important speech at a high-level national meeting held in Beijing on Wednesday.

The ceremony brought together leading scientists, researchers, academicians and representatives from China’s science and technology community to honour outstanding contributions to scientific and technological development.

The event combined the National Science and Technology Award Conference, the general assemblies of the members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the 11th National Congress of the China Association for Science and Technology.

President Xi addressed the gathering, which focused on China’s future priorities in science and technology policy, scientific research, innovation, talent development and industrial transformation.

China has increasingly placed scientific and technological self-reliance, original research, high-level talent cultivation and innovation-driven development at the centre of its national modernisation strategy.

The joint meeting is regarded as an important national platform for outlining the direction and priorities of China’s next stage of scientific and technological development.
