Indian Additional Secretary Munu Mahawar Arriving in Nepal on Monday

Munu Mahawar, Additional Secretary at India’s Ministry of External Affairs, is scheduled to arrive in Nepal on Monday to participate in bilateral meetings on energy cooperation.

According to available information, Mahawar will arrive in Kathmandu on July 13. During his visit, he is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal.

Mahawar heads the Northern Division of India’s Ministry of External Affairs, which handles matters related to Nepal and Bhutan.

During his visit, he will participate in meetings of the Nepal–India Joint Steering Committee and the Joint Working Group on power-sector cooperation.

The Joint Steering Committee is a secretary-level mechanism, while the Joint Working Group operates at the joint secretary level. The two bilateral mechanisms discuss and make decisions on electricity trade, hydropower projects, cross-border transmission lines and energy infrastructure cooperation between Nepal and India.

The meetings are expected to review the expansion of bilateral electricity trade, the status of proposed and ongoing cross-border transmission lines, access for electricity generated by Nepali hydropower projects to the Indian market and progress in implementing previous agreements.
