Neymar scored twice as Santos recovered to secure a 2-2 home draw against Chapecoense in Brazil’s Serie A on Saturday.

Neymar gave Santos the lead with a first-time finish into the far corner following a well-worked exchange with Alvaro Barreal.

It was Neymar’s first appearance since Brazil were eliminated by Norway in the round of 16 at the World Cup.

Marcinho equalised for Chapecoense shortly after the start of the second half. The visitors then moved 2-1 ahead when Santos defender Joao Ananias turned the ball into his own net.

Santos were awarded a penalty in the 89th minute after Bruno Matias brought down Gustavo Caballero. Neymar converted from the spot to make it 2-2 and rescue a point for the hosts.

The draw leaves Santos 14th in the 20-team standings with 22 points, 12 ahead of bottom-placed Chapecoense.

In Curitiba, goals on either side of halftime from Leozinho and Kevin Viveros gave Athletico Paranaense a 2-0 home victory over Internacional.

Paranaense moved into third place with 36 points, while Internacional remained 15th with 21 points.

In Saturday’s other fixture, Vasco da Gama drew 1-1 at home with Mirassol. Igor Formiga gave Mirassol a first-half lead before Andres Gomez scored the equaliser for Vasco.
