The Madhes Province Government has urged parents not to allow their children to leave home except for essential purposes.

Expressing concern over the growing involvement of children and adolescents in demonstrations, processions and crowds across several districts, the provincial government called on families to protect them from incitement, rumours, provocation and violent activities.

The Ministry of Home Affairs of Madhes Province said it was deeply concerned about the increasing participation of children and young people in street protests and rallies amid communal tensions and violent incidents reported in parts of the province.

“Please do not allow your children to become involved in any form of incitement, misinformation, provocation or violence. Do not send them outside except for essential purposes, monitor their activities and make them aware of misleading and inflammatory information circulating on social media,” the ministry said in its appeal to parents.

A teenager was killed after being shot during a demonstration in Siraha on Thursday. A child injured during clashes in Janakpurdham was also transferred to Kathmandu on Thursday night for further treatment.

The provincial government urged families, communities and all concerned parties to act responsibly and exercise restraint to ensure the safety of children.
