US Citizens Advised to Prepare to Leave West Asia as Security Tensions Rise

The US Embassy in Baghdad and the US Consulate General in Erbil have advised American citizens to remain highly alert and prepare to leave the region if necessary amid rising security tensions in West Asia.

In a security message issued through social media platform X, the US missions warned that the regional security situation remained complex and could deteriorate further at any time.

American citizens were urged to exercise heightened caution and remain aware of the possibility of flight cancellations, temporary airspace closures and other disruptions to travel.

The warning came as Iranian military officials accused the United States of escalating tensions across West Asia. Earlier reports in US media had claimed that Washington and Israel were preparing to strike Iranian energy infrastructure during the week.

According to the US missions, some airlines have postponed plans to resume services, while others have cancelled flights on selected routes.

American citizens were therefore advised to consider leaving the region where possible or remain ready to depart immediately should the situation worsen.

Similar security messages have also been issued by US embassies in several other West Asian cities, including Cairo.

Those messages stated that the behaviour of the Iranian government remained unpredictable and that recent developments indicated that locations near US military bases or areas not previously targeted could come under attack without advance warning.

The US embassies in Amman and Jerusalem also issued similar security alerts, claiming that Iran had expanded the geographical scope of its attacks to areas that had not previously been targeted.

The warnings were issued as military tensions and mutual accusations between the United States and Iran continued to intensify across the region.
