Death Toll from Drone Attack on Belgorod Rises to Six: Russian Authorities

The death toll from a large-scale overnight drone attack on the Russian city of Belgorod has risen to six, regional authorities said.

According to the Belgorod regional crisis center, the body of another man was recovered from the debris of an apartment building after a fire at the site had been extinguished. The discovery brought the number of people reported killed in the attack to six.

Russian authorities said the overnight attack on Belgorod was carried out using Ukrainian drones. Initial reports had put the death toll at three, with 25 people injured, including two children.

As search and rescue operations continued at damaged buildings, the reported number of fatalities subsequently rose first to five and then to six.

The regional crisis center also said two additional men had sought medical assistance following the attack. Both were expected to receive outpatient treatment.

Russian officials reported fires and damage to residential and other structures in different parts of Belgorod as a result of the attack.

Russia’s Defence Ministry also said a large number of Ukrainian drones had been launched toward several Russian regions during the night, with air defence systems intercepting and destroying many of them.

The latest casualty figures were released by Russian regional authorities. There was no immediate detailed response from the Ukrainian side regarding the reported casualties and damage.
