Rohit Paudel Removed as ODI Captain, Sandeep Lamichhane Reappointed

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has removed Rohit Paudel as captain of Nepal’s national One Day International team and reappointed Sandeep Lamichhane to the leadership role.

Alongside the leadership change, CAN expressed its appreciation for Paudel’s contribution, saying the achievements recorded under his captaincy would remain memorable in the history of Nepali cricket.

“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for carrying the hopes and trust of a nation and leading Nepali cricket with passion, dedication and unwavering determination,” CAN said in its statement.

The cricket governing body said Nepal’s achievements under Paudel’s captaincy would always be remembered with pride. It also described his commitment to the team, the country and the game as an enduring source of inspiration.

CAN expressed confidence that Paudel would continue contributing to Nepal with the same passion, pride and dedication in the years ahead.

The captaincy change follows a series of disappointing performances by Nepal’s ODI side. Paudel, however, is expected to remain an important member of the national team as a player.

Lamichhane, who has previously captained Nepal, was removed from the role and suspended by CAN in 2022 after being accused of rape. He was later acquitted by the Patan High Court on the grounds of insufficient evidence, after which CAN lifted his suspension.

With his return to the captaincy, Lamichhane will once again lead Nepal’s ODI side in upcoming international competitions.
