US ‘Golden Dome’ Missile Defense Contractors Complete Initial Key Tests

Contractors involved in developing the United States’ proposed “Golden Dome” missile defense system have completed their first major round of testing, according to a senior US military official.
Bloomberg, citing US Space Force General Michael Guetlein, reported that several companies participating in the programme, including SpaceX and Northrop Grumman, had successfully completed initial key tests of their technologies.
According to Guetlein, the programme will now move into its next phase, with upcoming tests focusing particularly on whether the technologies being developed can function effectively in the space environment.
The Golden Dome is envisioned as a multilayered missile defense architecture designed to integrate ground-based and space-based technologies for the detection, tracking and interception of missile threats.
A number of major US defense and space technology companies are involved in the programme. The reported completion of initial tests indicates that the project is moving from conceptual and early development work toward more practical technological evaluation.
The next phase of space-focused testing is expected to assess whether sensors, communications systems and other related technologies can operate as intended under space conditions.
