Starlink Begins Taking Orders in Vietnam

U.S. aerospace company SpaceX has begun accepting orders in Vietnam for its Starlink satellite internet service, expanding broadband options in areas where conventional fixed-line and mobile networks remain difficult to access.

According to Vietnamese media outlet VnExpress, customers can now place orders online without signing a long-term contract. The service includes a 30-day trial period, while equipment is expected to be delivered within one to two weeks after an order is placed.

Residential Starlink plans start at about 1.13 million Vietnamese dong, or approximately 44 U.S. dollars, per month.

Business customers will be charged according to data usage, while the required hardware must be purchased separately. Equipment prices start at around 8.65 million Vietnamese dong.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology granted Starlink permission to operate in the country in February.

During the initial phase, the service will operate through four ground gateway stations and will be allowed to support up to 600,000 user terminals.

The system is intended in particular to provide broadband connectivity at sea, in the air, and in remote or sparsely populated areas where traditional telecommunications infrastructure is difficult or costly to deploy.

Starlink provides internet access through a large constellation of satellites operating in low Earth orbit, making the service especially useful in regions with limited terrestrial communications infrastructure.

Vietnam has been prioritising the expansion of its digital economy and improving internet access in rural and hard-to-reach areas.

The entry of Starlink is expected to add a new technological dimension to Vietnam’s telecommunications market and could play an important role in expanding connectivity for maritime activity, aviation, rural communities and geographically isolated regions.
