Indian Chief of Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth has felicitated women military officers from ASEAN countries who are undergoing a specialized training program in New Delhi aimed at strengthening women’s participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations.
During an interaction with 11 women officers from ASEAN member states and Indian women officers participating in the ASEAN-UN Women Military Officers Course, General Seth acknowledged their commitment and contribution to expanding the role of women in UN peacekeeping.
The course is being conducted by the Centre for United Nations Peacekeeping at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi from August 10 to 21, 2026.
The program provides pre-deployment training to military officers preparing for assignments in United Nations peacekeeping missions and is designed to strengthen professional preparedness for multinational peace operations.
The initiative was announced by India’s Defence Minister during the third India-ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur in 2025.
According to the Indian Army, the program reflects India’s commitment to enhancing the participation of women in UN peacekeeping while also strengthening defence cooperation, regional partnership and capacity building between India and ASEAN.
The course also provides a platform for women military officers from participating countries to exchange professional experiences, develop operational skills and improve their ability to work effectively in multinational peacekeeping environments.
