Dhawal Shumsher Rana and Durga Prasai Part Ways, ‘Jai Nepal Party’ Applies for Registration

The political partnership between former Rastriya Prajatantra Party general secretary Dr. Dhawal Shumsher Rana and national campaign coordinator Durga Prasai has ended, just two months after they joined hands to build a new political force centered on nationalism, religion and cultural preservation.

Following the split, Rana went to the Election Commission on Friday with several supporters and submitted an application to register the “Jai Nepal Party.” Their alliance collapsed before the proposed political party could be formally registered.

Rana and Prasai had agreed two months ago to form a joint political force with the restoration of the monarchy and establishment of a Hindu state as key political agendas.

Under their initial understanding, Rana was to serve as party president while Prasai would hold the title of “supreme leader.” They had also agreed to form a 101-member central committee, with 40 members each from the Rana and Prasai camps and 20 members from a neutral group. The proposed election symbol was a triangle.

However, disagreements over leadership hierarchy and the distribution of power intensified as the group moved toward the final stage of party registration.

Prasai had insisted that he should hold the top position in the party hierarchy. Rana rejected the demand, and the two sides failed to reach an agreement.

Differences also emerged over the timing of party registration and the overall leadership structure. Prasai later publicly expressed frustration with Rana’s camp and questioned its commitment to the agenda of restoring the monarchy.

As a result, the proposed joint political project broke apart before formally beginning its electoral journey.

Rana is now preparing to move ahead independently through the Jai Nepal Party, while Prasai’s next political structure and strategy remain unclear.
