Nepal Oil Corporation Keeps Petroleum Prices Unchanged, Projects Rs 813.5 Million Fortnightly Loss

Nepal Oil Corporation has decided to keep the retail prices of petroleum products unchanged. The decision was taken by the Corporation’s Board of Directors on Sunday and will take effect from Monday, Bhadra 1.

The Corporation said that maintaining the existing prices is expected to result in a loss of around Rs 813.5 million over the next 15 days.

Nepal Oil Corporation had previously increased the prices of petrol, diesel, kerosene and aviation fuel with effect from Shrawan 18. Under the latest decision, the existing retail prices will remain in place.

According to the Corporation, petrol will continue to cost Rs 197.50 per litre in first-category areas, Rs 199 per litre in second-category areas and Rs 200 per litre in third-category areas.

The same pricing structure will apply to diesel and kerosene, with rates of Rs 197.50 per litre in the first category, Rs 199 in the second category and Rs 200 in the third category.

The Corporation has placed Charali, Biratnagar, Janakpur, Amlekhgunj, Bhalwari, Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi and Birgunj in the first category.

Surkhet and Dang fall under the second category, while Kathmandu, Pokhara and Dipayal are classified in the third category.

Nepal Oil Corporation applies different retail prices across the three categories based on transportation costs and geographical distance from its depots.

With the latest decision, consumers will not face an immediate increase in petroleum prices. However, the projected fortnightly loss of more than Rs 813 million could place additional pressure on the Corporation during future price reviews.
