The in-charge of Bhakunde Police Post in Namobuddha Municipality-4, Kavrepalanchok, Sub-Inspector Ganesh Prasad Shrestha, has been taken into custody after local residents found him at a hotel and handed him over to the District Police Office.
According to local residents, Shrestha was found at a hotel in Namobuddha around midnight in the company of a young woman. Police were subsequently informed, and a team from the District Police Office in Dhulikhel brought both individuals into custody.
Kavrepalanchok District Police Office Chief Superintendent of Police Rabin Karki confirmed that Shrestha had been brought to the district police office following information received from local residents.
“Both Shrestha and the other person are in police custody, and further investigation is underway,” Karki said.
Local residents alleged that Shrestha had engaged in conduct inconsistent with the responsibilities and dignity of his position. However, police have said that whether any legal or departmental offence was committed will be determined only after the investigation is completed.
The identity of the woman involved has not been made public. Police have also not yet released detailed information about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Shrestha was reportedly named an outstanding police officer by the Kavrepalanchok District Police Office in Jestha this year. The latest incident has therefore drawn additional attention, particularly in relation to professional conduct.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the hotel visit, the reason for their presence there and whether Shrestha violated any code of conduct or departmental regulations.
Until the investigation is completed, the allegations made by local residents cannot be treated as established facts. The legal and departmental status of the case is expected to become clearer after the formal police inquiry.
