Lumbini Chief Minister Acharya to Seek Vote of Confidence Today

Lumbini Province Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya is set to seek a vote of confidence from the Provincial Assembly today.

The Provincial Assembly Secretariat has released the tentative agenda for the 19th meeting of the eighth session, scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, stating that Chief Minister Acharya will present a confidence motion.

According to the agenda, the Speaker will first read out letters received from the Office of the Province Chief. Chief Minister Acharya will then deliver a statement and formally table a proposal seeking the confidence of the Provincial Assembly.

The proposal will subsequently be discussed in the Assembly. During the deliberations, provincial lawmakers will raise questions and concerns, which the Chief Minister will address before the motion is put to a vote.

After Acharya’s response, the Speaker is scheduled to present the confidence motion for a decision.

The Chief Minister is seeking a fresh vote of confidence after the Nepali Congress withdrew its support from the provincial government, triggering the constitutional requirement for him to demonstrate majority support in the Assembly.

The Lumbini Provincial Assembly has a total of 83 members. At least 42 votes are required for a majority.

Acharya has been working to secure support from more than the minimum number of lawmakers needed to survive the confidence vote.
