UML Leader Savitra Sapkota Dies After Being Hit by Truck in Kailali

Savitra Sapkota, a member of the CPN-UML Sudurpaschim Provincial Committee Advisory Council, died after being struck by a truck near Muda Bridge in Bardagoriya Rural Municipality-1, Kailali.

The accident occurred this morning when the scooter she was riding, bearing registration number Se 1-01-001 Kha, was hit by a truck with registration number Lu 1-01-010 Pa 0045.

The truck was being driven by 26-year-old Dinesh Giri of Bardaghat, Nawalparasi.

Sapkota sustained serious injuries in the collision and was taken to Dododhara Hospital for treatment, where doctors declared her dead.

According to Inspector Dambar Bista of the Area Police Office, Bauniya, police took truck driver Giri into custody from the border area between Bardagoriya Rural Municipality and Lamkichuha Municipality along the Mahendra Highway.

Police said further investigation into the circumstances and cause of the accident is underway.

Sapkota had also contested the post of vice-chairperson of Bardagoriya Rural Municipality as a CPN-UML candidate in the 2017 local elections.
