Russia Says Ukrainian Military Has Lost 674 Aircraft Since Start of Special Military Operation

The Russian Defense Ministry has said the Ukrainian military has lost a total of 674 aircraft since the start of what Moscow calls its special military operation.

The ministry issued the updated cumulative figures after reporting that the Russian Aerospace Forces had shot down a MiG-29 fighter aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Russian forces have also destroyed 284 helicopters and 212,445 unmanned aerial vehicles since the operation began.

The ministry further claimed that 669 anti-aircraft missile systems, 30,624 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, and 1,774 multiple-launch rocket systems have been destroyed.

It said Russian forces had also destroyed 36,186 field artillery weapons and mortars, along with 69,581 special military vehicles.

The ministry did not provide additional details in the statement about the location or circumstances in which the latest Ukrainian MiG-29 was shot down.

Russia and Ukraine regularly publish their own estimates of battlefield losses suffered by the opposing side. Such cumulative wartime claims are difficult to independently verify and should therefore be understood as figures released by the Russian Defense Ministry.
