Summer in Jiagenba Valley: Where Mountains, Flowers and Minyak Culture Meet

Jiagenba Valley in Kangding, Sichuan Province of China, has taken on a striking summer landscape, with lush grasslands, colourful flowers and sweeping mountain scenery.

Located at an elevation of about 3,200 metres above sea level, Jiagenba lies along the Liqiu River and is characterised by broad alpine meadows, valleys and traditional settlements that together shape its distinctive natural and cultural identity.

The area is also regarded as an important centre of Minyak culture. Traditional architecture, local customs, community life and long-preserved cultural practices remain visible across the settlements, offering visitors a close view of the region’s living heritage.

During summer, a wide variety of wildflowers bloom across the green grasslands, transforming the valley into a scene resembling a natural painting. The flowering season is especially noted for its vivid colours and the contrast between alpine vegetation and the surrounding highland terrain.

On clear days, visitors can also enjoy views of the snow-covered Gongga Mountain, widely known as the “King of Sichuan Mountains.” The combination of alpine meadows, flowering hillsides, river valleys and distant snow peaks gives Jiagenba its distinctive visual appeal.

Beyond its natural beauty, the valley has increasingly attracted travellers interested in experiencing Minyak culture and the traditional lifestyle of western Sichuan. During the summer season, visitors from different regions come to explore its grasslands, flowers, villages and mountain scenery.

The coexistence of nature and traditional culture remains one of Jiagenba’s defining features. Efforts to preserve the alpine environment while linking local cultural heritage with tourism are helping the area emerge as an increasingly attractive destination in western Sichuan.
