Russia to Expand Positions Available to Nurses and Feldshers from September 1

Russia’s Ministry of Health will expand the range of positions available to nurses and feldshers under new rules set to take effect on September 1, 2026.

Under the revised framework, qualified nurses and feldshers will be eligible to serve as heads of health posts or medical prevention offices.

Healthcare workers with training in laboratory diagnostics will also be able to take up positions as chief laboratory technicians.

The new rules further provide for nurses to work in positions responsible for receiving emergency medical service calls, as well as in sterilisation units.

The changes are part of a broader revision of professional positions and qualification requirements for personnel working in Russia’s healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors.

The expanded framework is expected to widen career opportunities for mid-level medical personnel while allowing healthcare institutions greater flexibility in assigning qualified staff to specialised and supervisory roles.
