Education Ministry Holds Policy Dialogue in Kathmandu Ahead of School Education Bill Draft

The Ministry of Education and Sports has continued collecting feedback from stakeholders as it prepares a new draft of the School Education Bill. After completing consultations in all seven provinces, the ministry on Sunday organized a thematic policy dialogue with stakeholder groups in Kathmandu.

A consultation workshop on “School Management and Curriculum Arrangements” is being held at the Nepal Academy in the presence of Education and Sports Minister Sasmit Pokharel. Education experts, representatives involved in school management and other stakeholders are participating in the programme.

The ministry had earlier conducted provincial-level education dialogues across all seven provinces, beginning in Biratnagar and concluding in Dhangadhi, as part of efforts to ensure broader participation in the drafting process.

The provincial consultations covered issues including teachers’ professional development, school management, student learning outcomes, curriculum and assessment systems, the quality of school education, and the division of responsibilities among the federal, provincial and local governments.

The Kathmandu policy dialogue is reviewing suggestions and conclusions gathered from the provincial consultations and discussing how issues related to school management and curriculum should be incorporated into the draft legislation.

The ministry plans to consolidate feedback from both the provincial dialogues and the thematic discussions in Kathmandu before moving ahead with the School Education Bill draft. It aims to use the proposed legislation as a framework for addressing long-standing policy and management challenges in Nepal’s school education system.
