105 Rescuers and 18.7 Tonnes of Relief Supplies Sent to Support Gyirong Disaster Response

China has dispatched 105 rescue personnel and 18,739 kilograms of relief supplies to support ongoing emergency operations following Wednesday’s mudslide at Gyirong Port in the Xizang Autonomous Region.

Three flights from Chengdu arrived in Lhasa on the morning of August 27 carrying rescue teams and urgently needed supplies for the affected areas.

The shipments included food, clothing, quilts, stretchers, detection equipment, cutting tools and other emergency materials required for search, rescue and relief operations.

The transportation of both rescue personnel and relief supplies was provided free of charge.

Following their arrival in Lhasa, the rescue teams and materials are being coordinated for onward deployment to Gyirong and surrounding disaster-affected areas.

The mudslide has caused significant disruption to roads, communications and other infrastructure around Gyirong Port, prompting authorities to mobilize additional personnel, equipment and emergency supplies from different parts of China.

Search and rescue operations are continuing alongside monitoring for secondary hazards, including further landslides, river blockages and risks associated with a newly formed landslide-dammed lake in the affected area.
