First Team of 141 Rescuers Reaches Gyirong Disaster Zone, High-Altitude Helicopter Deployed

The first team of 141 rescuers has reached the disaster-hit area around Gyirong Port in China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, according to China’s Ministry of Emergency Management.

The rescuers arrived at the affected area on Thursday morning as China intensified search, rescue and emergency assistance operations following the destructive mudslide and debris flow along the China-Nepal border.

A helicopter capable of operating in high-altitude conditions has also been deployed to the disaster zone to support rescue missions and the transport of personnel and emergency supplies in difficult mountainous terrain.

Rescue teams are prioritizing searches in affected settlements, areas around Gyirong Port and locations where ground access remains difficult. Drones and other technical equipment are also being used to survey the terrain and assess potential secondary hazards.

Earlier, special flights carrying additional rescue personnel and relief supplies had arrived in Lhasa from Chengdu. China has continued mobilizing personnel, food, clothing, medical supplies and search-and-rescue equipment to strengthen the emergency response.

Authorities are simultaneously monitoring the risk of further landslides, sudden water surges and a possible breach of a landslide-dammed lake that has formed in the Gyirong area.
