Rescue Teams Push Into Heavily Affected Areas of Gyirong Through Difficult Mountain Terrain

Rescue teams in Gyirong, in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, are advancing toward severely affected areas after landslides and flooding damaged road networks and cut off access to several locations.

With major roads washed away or blocked, reaching the affected areas by vehicle has become extremely difficult. In some places, rescue personnel have been forced to take longer routes over mountain ridges and cross steep, rugged terrain on foot.

Damage to roads and bridges has further complicated search and rescue operations. Teams are continuing efforts to identify safe routes and reach areas that remain difficult to access.

Modern technology is also being used to support the operation. Drones are conducting aerial surveys to assess conditions in the affected areas and help guide rescue teams.

Images and data collected by drones are being used to identify blocked routes, evaluate landslide conditions and locate priority search areas, allowing rescue teams to plan their movements more effectively.

Landslides and flooding have caused extensive damage to roads and other infrastructure around Gyirong. Despite the difficult terrain and continuing risk of further landslides, rescue teams are continuing efforts to reach stranded people and search for those who remain out of contact.
