Congress MP Kerung Demands Release of Investigation Report on Home Minister Gurung

Nepali Congress lawmaker Narendra Kumar Kerung has demanded that the government make public the investigation report concerning Home Minister Sudhan Gurung.

Speaking during Tuesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Kerung said the report prepared by a government-formed committee to investigate questions surrounding Gurung’s assets, share investments and alleged links with controversial business figures should be presented before Parliament and the public.

Gurung had resigned as Home Minister on Baisakh 9, saying that he wanted to avoid any conflict of interest and allow an impartial investigation into the allegations against him. The government subsequently formed a three-member investigation committee headed by former judge Achyut Prasad Bhandari.

According to Kerung, the committee examined Gurung’s assets, sources of income, loans, share investments, bank balances and related matters and submitted a 45-page report to the Prime Minister. He objected to the fact that the report has not yet been made public.

Kerung also questioned the government’s commitment to transparency and good governance, saying Gurung had been reappointed as a minister without the report being disclosed.

He demanded that if the government had concluded on the basis of the report that Gurung was innocent, the grounds, evidence and statements supporting that conclusion should also be made public.
