Fuel Spill of About 170 Tonnes Reported in Russia’s Taymyr Region, No Clear Environmental Damage Seen Yet

Around 170 tonnes of diesel fuel have reportedly spilled in the remote settlement of Syndassko in Russia’s Taymyr region, but preliminary inspections have found no obvious signs of environmental damage, according to local authorities.

Alexey Chlenov, head of Taymyr, told the Russian news agency TASS that no clearly visible environmental damage had been detected so far following the spill.

Earlier, the regional office of Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry reported a major fuel leak in Taymyr. According to emergency services, approximately 170 tonnes of diesel fuel were released in the settlement of Syndassko.

Officials said the spilled fuel reached Khatanga Bay. A state of emergency has been declared in the affected area.

Authorities are continuing to assess the extent of the spill, its spread and any potential environmental impact.
