Russian Citizens Abroad Continue Voting in Parliamentary Elections

Russian citizens living or temporarily staying abroad continued to cast their ballots in the country’s parliamentary elections on September 19. According to Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, voting began at diplomatic missions in several countries on September 18, with September 20 designated as the main voting day.

The ministry reported that Russian citizens voted in China, Iraq, Yemen and Libya, among other countries, on September 19. Those participating included Russian nationals working at the Sarkala oil field in Iraq and members of an Aeroflot crew who visited the Russian Consulate General in Guangzhou, China.

Voting also began on September 18 in Cyprus, Phuket in Thailand, and South Ossetia. Russian citizens cast their ballots in Kuwait and Bahrain as well, the ministry said. Russian diplomatic missions have been providing information on polling station locations and opening hours to help eligible citizens participate.

The Russian Foreign Ministry thanked citizens who had already voted and encouraged others to consult the official digital platforms of Russian diplomatic missions and the Central Election Commission for further information. Final figures for overseas participation are expected to be released after the voting process concludes.
